In furtherance of TWW's goal to
strengthen the bonds of community and to offer career guidance to
high school age children, the students participating in this program
will work with and learn from the elderly about Native
American/African Culture in a number of different settings including
community centers and homes. Many schools require that students
complete a community service requirement and participation in this
program would meet this standard. In addition, some students may
find this program rewarding and they would be encouraged to pursue
careers in the field of human services. By learning history from a
cultural or artistic point, the students will benefit from an
experienced perspective outside of their own. TWW, through members
of its board and volunteers, will provide supervision and

The
Community Service Workshop
Will develop community service programs for young people that will
both support their community while helping to prepare them for
college. This will help to build a bridge between youth and seniors
by linking the two through community service/involvement. To provide
an avenue for youth to understand the importance of how community
involvement can assist in obtaining career goals. Will also
strengthen ties between two of the most valuable generations in our
community.
Program Description
● Develop linkages with community High Schools to
recruit Junior and
Senior level students to participate in the
program.
●
Develop linkages with Senior Citizen Centers to
allow students to
participate in senior activities and provide an
opportunity for direct
involvement with the elders in the
community.
●
Selected students will participate in a 6-hour a
week program for a
12-week period.
●
Students will participate in a variety of
activities held at the Senior
Centers ranging from arts & crafts,
wisdom sharing, light errands,
entertainment activities, cooking,
and many other special events.
●
Students and Seniors will be encouraged to share
their talents,
experience, skills, and knowledge in areas of
interest.
●
At the end of the program students who complete 72
hours of
community service will receive a certificate and letter
of
recommendation for college or employment.

Students who participate in this program will
become eligible for
part time, summer, or intern opportunities
through T.W.W. Inc
Youth Work Force Development Program.
